Heilala’s new treasures - ‘Castaway’- inspired by my Tongan ‘friendly islands’ ancestral home & my love & desire for the uninhabited, remote, seclusion & peace that island life gives - since I was very young I’ve wanted to live on a deserted island with just white sand, sea & shells, sunshine & rain & little sea creatures for company. Cowrie shells have a spiritual meaning in Tonga & are a Tongan symbol for femininity, the giver of life, protection, purity, luck & prosperity, particularly the natural white shells, found all over the sands of the islands but I like to think of them as the homes of the little sea creatures, so I cast a silver one from a mould I make of a natural one and then return the natural shell back to the beach
The swallow bird is said to return to it's roost around springtime and brings luck to a household where it roosts - a symbol of happiness and luck
The beauty, grace & different colours of dragonflies is mesmerising. Inspiration for these comes from watching them fly around the garden landing near me so I can admire such beauty.
CocoBay was inspired by my wedding in 2004 on the sands of CocoBay in Antigua where the sands changed from white to silver, to pink and gold & thought a pop of colour amongst the sterling silver in the form of a little seahorse or starfish in gold & rose gold would look pretty so I created a individual and stacks of rings, bracelets & anklets along with single and triple necklaces that look great for wearing in any weather but especially summer wherever you may enjoy the weather.
